Ceramics Project

This project was my favorite project we did all semester long. The medium I used was the white clay to mold a  bowl shape. The second medium I used was the red slip to create the design in the middle of my bowl. The size of my ceramics is 11 inches in diameter. The technique I used to create the shape of my bowl was called slump.The fuction of my piece is for decoration. It isnt a very good bowl for something like, lets say, food. It is a very pretty decoration to put somewhere around the house and that is what I use it for! I created the design for this project because I wanted to make it for my mother and I put hearts inside the middle because I want to show her how much I care and love her. I learned a lot from this project, I learned how hard it can be to deal with clay and the different stages clay goes through to turn out like so. If I could go back and change something in my project, I think I would change the way I smoothed out the edges of my bowl. I feel like I didnt take enough time to make them really round and smooth.

One Point Perspective Lettering

This project was a quick, easy, and fun piece of art to create. It was used by using one point perspective. One point perspective is when parts of an item in the artwork are all going towards one point. The point of the paper is created by drawing a horizon line and putting the point wherever you would like your items to go. The first step of creating this artwork was drawing my horizon line, and placing the point where I would like my items to go to. I chose the middle of my horizon line because it was simple and I imagined it looking well in the end (which I say it did!). The next step was using my ruler and drawing many different lines to create the letters and making sure they reach the point. Making the letters three dimensional and all reach the point was a tricky process, but it worked out well in the end. The last thing I added to my artwork was a swimming pool to express myself. My favorite sport is swimming and I have done it since I was four years old. I thought it was a cool thing to add and all my lines reached the point. Last but not least was coloring it all in to make it look nicer and have a final, finished look!

Personal Logo

This piece of artwork was from the beggining of my art class. It is basically a logo of our intials and then a backround of something we enjoy. I enjoy going to the beach, going boating and fishing so this is why I chose to create an anchor with a sun and a few waves. The first step in creating this piece of art was figuring out my favorite thing to do! That was the fun part of the project for me because it was a time to think about all the things that put a smile on my face and make me happy. Once I came up with the beach theme, I used pencil to sketch my plan on the white piece of paper. When I was happy with my drawing and it looked ready to go, I took sharpie and overlined the pencil on the paper. The black and white added a great amount of contrast to my artwork. Black and white is a major source of contrast while drawing. I am very happy with the turn out of my piece of art and I had a good time creating it!

Acrylic Landscape Painting

While making this landscape painting at first it took a lot of time to create and organize. While looking at my picture I had to figure out which pieces were which, for example, which part is the sky, backround, middle ground, and foreground. I usedcomposition by adding many dark and light colors to my painting. Something special that added compostiton was my sunset in the sky. Atmospheric perspective refers to the effect the atmosphere has on the appearance of an object as it is veiwed from a distance. I created atmospheric perspective by using the sky, backround, middleg ground, and foreground. I created a good amount of light source by added little things to my painting such as white clouds and a nice orange sunset. Those things made my painting look very bright and happy. My color scheme for this painting included many similar colors and different colors. For example there were many blues and greens but sometimes lighter colors like orange and light brown were included in my scheme. For my sky, my brush strokes were light and a simple back and forth motion of my hand to get that idea of a sky. While painting my backround, I didnt stroke my brush at all I actually did a dabbing technique to get the idea of a rough, somewhat grassy ground. Painting my middle ground was much like the sky at first I just went back and fourth but while painting the grass, I flicked my brush upwards to create a grassy look. My foreground is the ocean, and its very similar to my sky, I used many back and forth strokes. I used most of my value for this piece of art in my sky. The sky was many shades of blue and had a few clouds in there

Pastel Still Life

This piece of art is called a Pastel Still life. In my still life, I used a lot of composition and light. I planned my composition by simply moving my items around and figuring out what looked best. I ended up having my two biggest items in the back, and my smaller item in front. A thumbnail sketch is a small concise drawing of an image. The viewfinder helped me find a nice position that fit well on the big paper. It was a good tool to find a nice layout for my artwork. To make my items appear three dimensional, I used a lot of value. Value was a very big part of this project for me and it really seemed to bring out the items and make the appear three dimensional. When creating light source during this project, there were many things I had to do. First I had to figure out where the light was coming from, where it was hitting on the items and where it wasn't.  Once I found those three things, I lightened the side the light was shining on. As you can see I also have many shadows on my art work. That is where the light shines and the items cast a shadow.
